Larissa & Paul | From Proposal to Marriage with The Stylist's Guide
Unlike most love stories, the one you’re about to read did not begin with boy meets girl, but instead, boy meets event stylist.
Chapter one: The Proposal
The love story began in February 2018, when the groom-to-be asked our director for help, to create the perfect proposal for his lovely Larissa. To make sure we made the most memorable moment for both Larissa and Paul, we also worked alongside the couple’s soon to be Maid of Honour, Larissa’s best friend, Cimon.
The proposal day began with a special delivery of personalised flowers to the restaurant Paul was planning to propose at, which said “will you marry me”, alongside a table set up with photos of the couple over the years. The finishing touch was our champagne bucket filled with bubbly, personalised balloons that said ‘Larissa & Paul Engaged’ and a beautiful cake made by Pasta Deli, donned with our ‘Forever’ cake topper.
It was such a beautiful day, and we’re so happy we could help Paul create a moment both himself and Larissa will never forget.
To make this day so special, we provided our ‘We plan, you relax services’, which included:
Email and phone follow up with clients, suppliers, the restaurant and more, plus management and coordination with external suppliers, to ensure that everything was organised for the day.
Chapter two: The Engagement
As the song goes, first comes love, then comes marriage… wait, they missed a vital part - the engagement! After we worked with Paul to create the perfect proposal, it was now our turn to work with Larissa to create an engagement party that was stylish, elegant and of course, fun!
Larissa’s vision for her engagement was simple, yet so stylish - using a mix of marble, black and gold, adding to the already beautiful Hotel Richmond. A neon sign from Neon Collective that said ‘To the moon and back’ donned the wall above the dessert table, making the space that little bit more modern and on trend, while providing the perfect photo opportunity for guests. We styled the space with florals from Poppy + Vine and a bar from Modern Party Hire, plus organised gorgeous laser cut signage from Laser Lab Co.
So how did we help turn Larissa’s vision into reality? Let us tell you.
Let’s meet - initial consultation
We use this time to discuss your ideas, objectives and event scope, to establish a vision for your event and identify a brief. From this consultation, we go away to come up with a quote that reflects your event requirements.
We plan, you relax - email & phone follow up
In the lead up to the event we were planning everything to the last detail, liaising with suppliers and making sure everything is on track, plus we were always keeping Larissa up to date with every last detail.
From start to finish – on the day event coordination & styling
On the day of your event, the last thing you want to be doing is stressing about everything coming together perfectly. We make it easy, fun and hassle free with our on the day event coordination and styling. We coordinated the set up, ensured all deliveries were on track, styled the event and looked after the finer details.
As well as helping out with our services, a number of our prop hire items were used to make the space pop! These included:
Glamorous Gold Mirror Cake Stand 30cm
Glass Cake Stands
Cylinder Vases
Americana Glass Dispensers
You can find all of these items here.
Larissa said, “The Stylist’s Guide has a huge selection of prop hire. All my events leading up to the wedding and including the wedding involved the hire of some props - from candles to vases, and even velvet as decorations, Alyse had it all at hand. Her items were always clean and in good condition. My favorite part is that when receiving her items for hire, they were well labeled and organised which made the clean up process easy.”
Chapter three: The Bridal Shower
Aside from the wedding day, bridal showers are one of our favourite events to work on with our brides. Apart from it being fun to style and set up, it’s the day you come together with your closest family and friends to celebrate becoming a wife - preparing your kitchen for nights cooking dinner with your husband! When Larissa came to us for help with her Bridal Shower, we couldn’t say no, especially because it was Amalfi Coast themed (if you’ve been following us for a while, you know we love a good Italian theme).
It was a beautiful afternoon indulging the bride to be at The Moseley Bar & Kitchen, styled to perfection with fresh flowers that were supplied and arranged by us, alongside a number of our prop hire items. We absolutely loved using lemons as a pop of yellow throughout the event, as well as the yellow on the menus, signage by Giftables, and of course, in the limoncello!
Alongside the pops of yellow, we used gold in elements like our cocktail cart, and white for the balloon installation by Balloons and more your party store, plus mesh backdrop and cake table by JAKS hire + events. It was a gorgeous afternoon, and one of our favourites to style.
Chapter four: Bachelorette Party
Larissa decided to ditch the strippers and topless waiters for her bachelorette party, and opt for something a little more elegant. So, we went with simple but elegant, making it all about having a fun night out with her favourite ladies.
Electra House was the perfect venue to do just that, along with moody florals from Studio Botanic, signage by Giftables, mesh plinths from JAKS hire + Events, plus a balloon installation from Balloons and more your party store. To exude the perfect mood we used our battery operated candles, plus cylinder vases to bring the space to life - which you can find on our prop hire section.
We helped bring the night together with the following services:
Consult, style, repeat– styling consultation
To make sure we execute your event to the highest standard, we require 2-3 styling consultations prior, to ensure everything is on track, requirements are met and the finer details are finalised.
We plan, you relax email & phone follow up
In the lead up to the event we were planning everything to the last detail, liaising with suppliers and making sure everything is on track, plus we were always keeping Larissa up to date with every last detail.

On the day of your event, the last thing you want to be doing is stressing about everything coming together perfectly. We make it easy, fun and hassle free with our on the day event coordination and styling. We coordinated the set up, ensured all deliveries were on track, styled the event and looked after the finer details.
Chapter five: The Wedding
After months of planning and preparation, the day was here, and it was time to watch Larissa and Paul tie the knot. It was so lovely seeing everything come together, from her secret lunch for the bridal party, to their photo locations and wedding reception, The Stylist’s Guide were there at every step of the way.
Unlike the other events we had previously worked with the couple on, Larissa decided to opt for our Consult, Style, Repeat package for her wedding reception, as it suited the requirements of her wedding much better - being at the National Wine Centre, where there are a number of function staff on hand. This required 4-5 styling consultations prior to the big day, ensuring everything was on track, requirements ran smoothly and the finer details were finalised.
Larissa decided to work alongside the suppliers for her big day, to ensure she knew exactly what was happening when it came to deliveries. The Stylist’s Guide stepped in two hours prior to the reception started, working alongside the National Wine Centre staff to ensure everything was set-up to Larissa’s direction. This is part of our All The Little Things package, where we assist to make styling purchases, plus in this case, checked over the reception venue, to ensure everything was going as planned.
As a little surprise, we also helped Larissa and Paul spoil their bridal party with lunch at Gepettos Hahndorf. The perfect way to create memories with your nearest and dearest on your wedding day. We went to the venue early to set up a styled table that flowed through with the theme of Larissa and Paul’s wedding, supplying the following:
Prop Hire: Napkins and swizzle sticks
Custom Decor: Place cards, personalised swizzle sticks and fresh flower arrangements
Styling, set up and coordination with venue on the day of event.
Larissa said, “For me, planning my wedding and the events leading up to it became quite overwhelming, especially towards the end. Alyse helped me to navigate my ideas and make them come to life. I loved how the process was personalised for Paul and I and the end product reflected who we were as a couple rather then just the standard party planning. Alyse has an eye for detail, and she truly makes every event personal and reflective of what you want to achieve.”
