Hot tips for lifting your Christmas party game with style:
It’s beginning to LOOK at lot like…
We know the traditional Christmas colours are red, green, white, silver and gold, so let’s mix it up in 2021 while still keeping to the festive theme. Take your favourite colours from the standard Christmas colour wheel and use it throughout the party decorations – but keep to the theme! Trust us, it can be tempting to grab all decorations in sight when you enter Kmart or Spotlight.
Go in with an idea of colours you want to add to the party, and have other complementary colours outside of the box that adds a visual va-va-voom to your decorations! For example, you can find flowers, napkins and cutlery that fit with the colours silver and green, while adding a touch of lilac purple to the mix for depth and diversity.
Fake it ‘til you make it!
While having a real-life Christmas tree and decorations like real flowers and fauna make for unreal additions to the table, they aren’t so great when you are hosting multiple parties. There are so many options at local thrift stores, or trusty Spotlight, that have alternative fake flowers, plants and trees to add an element of nature without the waste. Plus you can keep it on theme by spray painting the plastic with your colour palette for the year, plus update and reuse it again for years to come!
Make it personal
One thing we love about Christmas is how something that might be insignificant for some, is very sentimental for others. Christmas is all about a personalised experience, so what better way to make your Christmas party more memorable than to make it unique to your guests. Whether you’re hosting family, friends or work colleagues, tying your party to memory lane is a sure-fire way to add warmth and joy to the occasion.
You might want to add personalised ornaments to the mix on the table setting, have candles that speak to each person’s unique scent, or bonbons that are filled with goodies your guests will all enjoy. Christmas is about making your own traditions and creating connection through time spent together.
Santa Baby, take a picture under the tree
As we become more invested in our digital age and taking photos and videos on our phone, it’s a rarity that we come by actual printed images of our family and friends at joyous events. We often take so many photos that are stored on our phones for years on end, never actually going to print them – why not cut out the middle-man this Christmas and bring the disposable cameras back?
In recent years, we’ve seen the popularity of polaroid cameras sky-rocket as people remember just how fun and handy instant photos are! Grab a few polaroid cameras (there’s plenty on Marketplace/Gumtree), get some film and scatter the cameras around your event. Not only will guests have fun staying off their phone, they’ll have a tangible memory to take with them and stick on the fridge to admire for years to come!
